We bought the Ghia to drive! Our goal is to make it a fun car with some decent power and handling! When we got it home we found that the pans had more rust in them than we thought, because we intend to drive her we just cut out the bad and replaced with sheet metal. Cheaper than buying new pans and perfect for our needs. We don't want to modify her in anyway that can not be easily fixed if we ever decide to do a total restore back to stock.
The window seals were also in pretty bad shape, water had leaked in and caused the door panels to warp. Probably what rusted the floor pans also, the rest of the car is in pretty good shape as far as rust goes. So we ordered some from Karmann Ghia Parts & Restoration. One thing always leads to another so we now have new door panels, carpet, door hinges and several more small parts. We decided to prep the sheet metal inside of the car and paint it while everything is out.
We also now have all the parts to rebuild the brakes. The left rear wheel cylinder decided to leak all over the garage floor! Best to rebuild them now before we run into something!
After the Interior is back together and the Brakes rebuilt we will tune up the engine and maybe get to drive her more than just around the block!
Then we will start on the paint - maybe find some bumpers - probably just drive it for awhile - we would like to be able to keep it on the road as much as possible while working on it.

Apr 2003 We have got most of the interior back in.
We also rebuilt the brakes, put on braided steel brake lines, and new shocks. We got to drive it down the block and back for the first time! YEA!!!!
